Contract Covers End-to-End Network Management and Professional Security Consulting ASHBURN, Va., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Business will fully manage and secure all aspects of the U.S. Army Reserve Command's Internet protocol network in the continental U.S., under a new agreement announced Tuesday (Dec. 15). The agreement (Contract W91LV2-09-C-0049), which covers one year and four optional one-year extensions, deepens and expands Verizon Business' long-standing relationship with the agency. Verizon Business will manage and secure the agency's entire network, including critical components such as routers, local area network (LAN) switches, firewalls and private branch exchange (PBX) equipment. Verizon Business will monitor and secure the network - which links 950 sites and 55,000 users - from the company's ISO/IEC 20000 certified Government Network Operations and Security Center (GNOSC). The GNOSC is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to supporting the unique security and operational requirements of Verizon Business' federal government customers. In addition to network management and security services, Verizon Business will provide professional services and network monitoring to help address the Army's information assurance security guidelines governing the networking environment, software and hardware. "Whether it is training soldiers or defending our nation, Verizon Business' expertise and technology are helping the Army Reserve Command meet its missions," said Susan Zeleniak, group president, Verizon Federal. "With private IP services in a fully managed network environment, Verizon Business can help the Army Reserve Command meet its current and future operational requirements with confidence while holding the line on operating costs." The U.S. Army Reserve Command trains and readies Army Reserve troop units in the continental U.S. The Reserve Command maintains a force that can mobilize rapidly to respond to a crisis while supporting humanitarian and relief operations after natural disasters such as hurricanes or flooding. Since 2004, Verizon Business has provided the Army Reserves with private IP services, transporting critical data over the Verizon Business vBNS+ (Very High Performance Backbone Network Service) network, which is dedicated primarily to government and educational institutions with high-performance network requirements. Verizon Business's GNOSC will manage the Army Reserve Command's network operations round-the-clock, seven days a week. By shifting day-to-day management to Verizon Business and consolidating existing managed services contracts under one agreement, the command will be able to control costs while maintaining the flexibility to add new sites as operational needs evolve.
