San Francisco Unified School District honors the Salesforce.com Foundation at the Lab's opening dedication SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Salesforce.com Foundation, the global leader in integrating philanthropy and business, today was honored by the San Francisco Unified School District for its role in building a new computer lab to address the digital divide at Sanchez College Preparatory School based in San Francisco where 83% of students live below the poverty line. Over 50 salesforce.com employees dedicated their vision and time and secured funds on behalf of the Salesforce.com Foundation to update the Sanchez computer lab. The new computer lab is designed to support the differentiated Waterford reading program to help students raise their reading levels at least one grade level. "Our 320 students use the lab daily and reading levels are rising. We couldn't have done without the Salesforce.com Foundation and are extremely grateful." What started as a plan to refurbish 20 PCs from the 1990's turned into an incredible project. The goal was the ability to run the Waterford Reading Program, a program that has helped many schools with few resources and low reading levels to bring their students up to grade level. To do so, Sanchez needed a powerful server and newer computers. Ultimately, many different pieces contributed to the project's success. The Salesforce.com Foundation awarded the project a Community Action Team Grant and salesforce.com employees provided matching funds and donated time to set-up the lab. With the money raised and the expertise of salesforce.com employees, Sanchez now has a 21st century computer lab with 22 new computers.
