University of Tennessee Medical Center Deploys Compliance Commander(TM) for Protecting Patient Data

PR Newswire (US)
RICHARDSON, Texas, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Intrusion
Inc. announced today the successful deployment of Compliance
Commander(TM) at the University of Tennessee Medical Center for
protecting against patient data leaks onto public networks. The
high costs associated with patient data breaches, and the potential
loss of patient confidence, are key drivers for adoption of this
new technology. "The security of our patient data is part of UT
Medical Center's mission statement," said Gary Haney, Assistant
Director of Information Services & HIPAA Security Officer at UT
Medical Center. "We needed a network appliance to address the
identified risk of patient or employee data leaking onto public
networks. Desktop agents were not suitable for our organization
because of cost and management issues." Compliance Commander(TM)
uses exact data matching against the medical information system
(MIS) and corporate financial databases to accurately detect and
block when sensitive patient or employee data attempts to leave the
network unprotected. Accurate data matching is critical for
minimizing false alerts that can consume management time and add
significantly to cost of ownership. "UT Medical Center has had
Compliance Commander(TM) deployed for three months and we have been
extremely pleased with our result thus far," added Mr. Haney. Sword
& Shield of Knoxville, Tennessee is Intrusion's reseller
partner in the region and provides value-added services for the
healthcare sector. "The University of Tennessee Medical Center is
one of the most respected medical institutions in the state," said
Will Henderson, CEO of Sword and Shield. "They quickly realized the
value of Compliance Commander(TM) for taking a proactive approach
to protecting patient data. We have a number of Compliance
Commander risk assessments in place at other healthcare
institutions, and we are seeing an increasing rate of adoption for
this solution." Intrusion allows qualified healthcare organizations
to see Compliance Commander(TM) in action as part of a no-charge
risk assessment. "Because this technology is data centric -- the
appliance looks at where and how actual patient data is flowing on
the network -- our target customers often don't understand that
they have security issues until they have Compliance Commander(TM)
in place," explained Ward Paxton, CEO of Intrusion Inc. "Firewalls
and intrusion prevention systems are oblivious to actual data
flows, often over legitimate business network communications, and
they simply cannot address the numerous classes of patient data
leak issues that we commonly see with our Compliance Commander(TM)
data leak prevention solution." About The University of Tennessee
