Honeywell International Inc. said it is expanding its manufacturing operations in Smithfield, R.I., to produce N95 face masks in support of the U.S. government's response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Charlotte, N.C., conglomerate said it is ramping up operations to produce millions of N95 disposable respirators, adding that the addition of the new mask production line will create at least 500 new jobs at the Smithfield plant, which produces UVEX-branded eye-protection products, including safety glasses, safety goggles and protective face shields.

Honeywell said it will deliver the N95 face masks to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to add to the U.S. stockpile.
