FORT WORTH, Texas, November 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
Elbit Systems of America, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of
Elbit Systems Ltd. will present an integrated border security
solution at the 2011 I-EEE International Conference on Technologies
for Homeland Security November 15 -
17, in Boston,
Massachusetts. The featured solution utilizes the
international experience of Elbit Systems Ltd. and tailors it to
meet the critical needs of our border patrol agents in the United States.
Each day the United States Customs and Border Patrol (CBP)
agents fulfill critical missions in environments of vast and
varying terrains along the US border. In support of CBP's mission
to protect our homeland, Elbit Systems of America builds upon the
successfully deployed experience of Elbit Systems Ltd. and tailors
the applications for the United
States borders. Our solutions enable agents to identify the
full range of threats, in any terrain, at any time. Using a layered
concept, Elbit Systems of America combines radar and
electro-optical sensors with unattended ground sensors, unmanned
air systems (UAS), unmanned ground vehicles and unmanned surface
vehicles to enhance the agents' ability to respond. Additionally,
integration though a common operating picture (COP) provides
detailed information for detecting, tracking, identifying, and
classifying items of interest; maximizing the efficacy of the
mission.
Several of our border security solutions will be featured at the
I-EEE conference, including our family of unmanned aerial systems
(UAS) and thermal vision/surveillance systems. A leading supplier
of UAS, Elbit Systems of America was one of the first companies in
the U.S. to fly a large UAS on the southern border as part of a
lease project to the Border Patrol, proving the effectiveness of
the UAS as a counterpart to border security missions. For
short-range and lower altitude missions, Elbit Systems of America
is providing persistent surveillance with UAS based on the
operationally-proven Skylark® I LE. Currently in use by many
coalition partners, the Skylark® I LE has an operational range of
15 km and approximately three hours of endurance. The system also
features a unique gyroscopic-stabilized, gimbaled payload optimally
integrated with algorithms derived from the larger Hermes® 450 UAS
to enable auto-tracking of dynamic targets; an impressive
capability for a hand-launched UAS.
Elbit Systems of America has invested in homeland security
applications involving persistent surveillance on the ground and in
the air. The KAT EYE™ Medium Range and Emerald Long Range Thermal
Imager are high-performance, highly-mobile day/night, wireless
surveillance systems which use cutting-edge technology day cameras
and cooled, highly-sensitive, thermal cameras with optical zoom.
These systems, which Elbit Systems of America will feature at
I-EEE, enable long-range surveillance for border security,
identification, and classification. The KAT EYE™ Medium Range
consists of a Base Station and one Remote Station which can be
emplaced greater than 5 Km away for wireless operation or within
500m. A single Base Station can monitor and control up to four (4)
Remote Stations, increasing efficiency and multiplicity. Emerald
can be tripod-mounted, or handheld. Its laser range finder, digital
magnetic compass and global positioning system allow generation of
coordinates to 10Km. The unit offers users the ability to collect
multiple pieces of important data at once.
Rounding out our border security solution, Elbit Systems of
America offers the Homeland Security Simulation System. The system
provides incident commanders and their first responder teams the
capability to conduct exercises in a high fidelity environment on a
wide range of natural and man-made disaster scenarios.
Elbit Systems of America
President and CEO, Raanan
Horowitz commented, "Elbit Systems of America has applied
lessons learned over decades of experience in border security to
develop innovative, integrated and cost-effective, off-the-shelf
solutions which provide maximum benefit to the border security
mission in any terrain. We are pleased to showcase our layered
concept of border security at I-EEE."
