FORT WORTH, Texas, October 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Elbit Systems of America, whose group of companies provides diversified, systems-level technology designed to enhance safety and security in the defense, homeland security, and commercial aviation markets, is pleased to announce that Joe R. Reeder has joined its board of directors. With substantial experience in military planning with regard to infrastructure, material requirements, contracts, and public policy, as well as a notable legal background, Reeder strengthens a board that regularly contributes to Elbit Systems of America's growth-oriented accomplishments. As the Panama Canal Board Chairman and former U. S. Army Under Secretary, Reeder served as the Army's de facto chief operating officer with direct responsibilities for long-range planning, infrastructure, acquisition reform, and military support of civilian agencies for law enforcement, disaster relief, and emergency planning. As one of five members of the Base Realignment Closure (BRAC) Council, he also assisted the Department of Defense in reducing costs and realigning priorities for more agile and capable forces. Among the many civil and corporate boards he serves on, Reeder is Chairman of the Virginia National Defense Industry Authority, a member of the Board of Governors of the National Defense Industry Association (NDIA), and he chairs NDIA's Ethics Committee. Currently the managing shareholder for the Mid-Atlantic region of Greenberg Traurig LLP, a 1,600-attorney firm ranked seventh on the American Lawyer's AmLaw 100, Reeder brings to the board an extensive background in government contracts, defense and national security issues, dispute resolution, and regulatory investigations. "According to Elbit Systems of America President and Chief Executive Officer Tim Taylor, "Joe's breadth of experience in both private and public service is an asset that is enhancing our position in the marketplace. As we continue to build our reputation with proven systems and integration of new, transformational technology to existing platforms, Joe's counsel will help to ensure that we are aligned with the national interest of the United States and the strategic direction of our customers." Reeder received his LL.M from Georgetown University and his J.D. from the University of Texas. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
