Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (CLNE) on Thursday said it named a pair of Total S.A. (TOT) designees to its board and that its co-founder, legendary oilman T. Boone Pickens, is retiring as a director.

The Newport Beach, Calif., provider of natural-gas fueling for vehicle fleets, said Total Marketing Services S.A. executives Momar Nguer and Philippe Montanteme have joined the board. French energy giant Total bought a 25% stake in Clean Energy through Total Marketing in June.

Clean Energy said the 90-year-old Mr. Pickens is retiring as a director as he curtails his business activity. The company named Mr. Pickens director emeritus, which entitles him to attend future board meetings.

Mr. Pickens, who founded Mesa Petroleum in the 1950s and built it into one of the largest global independent oil companies, founded Clean Energy's predecessor in 1996 in a push toward cleaner alternative energy and has served as a director since June 2001.
