Entropia IV Expands Capacity, Extends Application Envelope for
Centillium Communications' Flagship VoIP SoC FREMONT, Calif., April
24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Centillium Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ:CTLM) today launched Entropia(TM) IV, the next generation
of its carrier-class Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) system-on-
a-chip (SoC) processor. Entropia IV delivers performance increases
of approximately 20 percent over its predecessor for all supported
wireless and wireline low bit rate codecs (LBRC), offering
ultra-high channel density for next-generation networks while
maintaining the field-hardened carrier-grade quality, robust
functionality, and low power consumption that distinguish the
company's flagship solution suite. Entropia IV offers system
vendors powerful processing and superior voice quality for a broad
range of VoIP applications, including carrier-class wireline and
wireless networks, media servers, and as a replacement for
traditional POTS telephony infrastructure. An IP Multimedia
Subsystem (IMS)- ready SoC, Entropia IV scales to meet the complex
processing requirements of both fixed communications and mobile
infrastructure, supporting convergence of traditional and premium
services through next-generation networks. The new SoC utilizes the
same software application programming interface (API) as the entire
Entropia products suite, field-proven for voice and service quality
with more than 25 million wireless and wireline ports currently
deployed worldwide. "With Entropia IV, Centillium has raised the
stakes considerably for processor performance and functionality in
the VoIP space," said Faraj Aalaei, co-founder and CEO, Centillium
Communications. "With the market already embracing Entropia for its
unmatched voice quality and flawless execution of fixed-mobile
convergence, the outsized capacity of our newest solution only adds
to its appeal for OEM customers as they develop the hardware for
next- generation applications." Entropia IV embeds a powerful
combination of DSP and RISC network processors on a single chip for
extreme voice processing power and seamless management of wireless
and wireline communications. The system assures better than 30
gigamultiply accumulate operations per second (GMAC/s) of DSP
processing and one GOP of network processing to drive more than
1000 voice channels per chip. Sophisticated power management and
market-leading port density contribute to one of the industry's
lowest rates of power consumption -- less than three milliwatts
(mW) per channel, including external SDRAM. "Our customers expect
solutions without compromise, and Entropia IV reflects our
sustained commitment to that promise," said Didier Boivin,
marketing vice president, Centillium Communications. "With
Entropia, service providers can enjoy industry-leading innovations
while counting on quick time- to-market and comprehensive voice
services for their next-generation deployments. And for our current
Entropia customers, Entropia IV, a drop-in replacement for Entropia
III, integrates the same API they are familiar with, allowing them
to pay forward their development investment." The Entropia IV SoC
solution is available now and includes software, documentation and
reference designs for minimized time-to-market. Entropia solutions
power voice and media gateways, wireless infrastructure gateways,
Class 4 and 5 switches, Digital Loop Carriers (DLC), voice-enabled
IP routers, and IP private branch exchange (PBX) systems. Entropia
software fully supports IMS architecture, enabling on-demand
delivery of rich media services over wireless and wireline
networks. About Centillium Communications Centillium
