June 01 2021 - 8:30AM
Hamilton, Bermuda, June 1, 2021 – Auris Medical
Holding Ltd. (NASDAQ: EARS), a clinical-stage company dedicated to
developing therapeutics that address important unmet medical needs
in neurotology, rhinology and allergology, today announced that its
affiliate Altamira Medica Ltd. has started preparations for the
conduct of a study with its BentrioTM nasal spray for protection
against airborne viruses and allergens in India. The study will
seek to evaluate the efficacy of BentrioTM in the prevention and
treatment of acute Covid-19 and shall start recruitment in the
third quarter 2021 subject to regulatory and ethics committee
approval.
“In our studies in human nasal epithelium cells,
Bentrio has shown to be highly effective both in protecting against
SARS-CoV-2 when applied before infection onset and in reducing
infectiousness when applied afterwards”, commented Thomas Meyer,
Auris Medical’s founder, Chairman and CEO. “We now look forward to
testing and confirming Bentrio’s efficacy also clinically. Despite
great progress with vaccination programs, Covid-19 remains a major
health risk and concern for many people and many countries
worldwide, as evidenced by recent surges in infection rates and the
continued emergence of virus variants.”
About
BentrioTM
BentrioTM (AM-301) is a drug-free nasal spray
for personal protection against airborne viruses and allergens.
Upon application into the nose, BentrioTM forms a protective gel
layer on the nasal mucosa. This thin film is designed to prevent
the contact of viruses or allergens with cells; in addition, the
composition serves to bind such particles and help with their
discharge and to humidify the nasal mucosa. Together, this is
designed to reduce the risk of upper respiratory tract viral
infections and promote alleviation of allergic symptoms.
