STOCKHOLM—King Digital Entertainment PLC on Wednesday reported a slightly higher net profit than last year even as gross bookings and revenue fell.

The maker of "Candy Crush Saga" is set to be acquired by Activision-Blizzard Inc. at the beginning of next year. King reported net profit of $142.7 million for the third quarter, up from $141.7 million last year.

Revenue fell some 7% to $479.7 million.

In the third quarter, King's gross bookings amounted to $502 million, above the company's forecast, but about 8% lower than last year. The gross bookings are a mobile gaming industry metric that includes virtual proceeds from in-game transactions that haven't necessarily translated into full-fledged revenue yet.

Shares were flat after hours in New York trading.
