Heineken NV pledged to add more female leaders and talent from diverse racial backgrounds to its business, a move that comes amid growing pressure on companies to tackle the gender, ethnic and racial imbalance in the workforce and upper echelons.

The world's second-largest brewer said Thursday that it aims to increase the number of women in senior management to 30% over the next four years and 40% by 2030. The company had said in its latest diversity and inclusion report that 23% of its senior management is comprised of women.

Heineken also said it aims to recruit and retain more talent from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds over the next two years. It said it wants at least 65% of its country leadership teams in each region to be comprised of regional nationals and that it will train all its managers in inclusive leadership practices.
