Ultra wins #10m US Navy sonobuoy orders
Ultra Electronics announces that its North American sonobuoy businesses have
been awarded contracts by the US Navy worth over #10.5 million. Delivery of the
sonobuoys will commence in early 2004 and run through to the beginning of 2005.
Ultra, which has sonobuoy businesses in the UK, the USA and Canada, develops and
manufactures high technology sonobuoys which are used to detect acoustically the
presence of submarines. The awards are for the latest generation sonobuoys, both
passive and active, together with bathythermal buoys that measure the
temperature profile of the ocean.
Ultra remains the world's leading supplier, having secured the majority by value
of all contracts awarded worldwide in the last year for NATO compatible
sonobuoys.
Dr Julian Blogh, Chief Executive of Ultra Electronics Holdings plc, commented:
"We are pleased to have won these contracts and to be continuing our long and
successful association with the US Navy. Our constant process of design
innovation and of developing ever more cost-effective solutions has resulted in
Ultra winning sonobuoy contracts not just in the USA but around the world.
Awards such as these help maintain Ultra's strong order book which gives
excellent visibility of the Group's future business."
