DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
The following table lists unplanned and planned production
outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The
information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining
sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
BP PLC (BP) Wednesday extended a period of planned flaring at
its Carson, California, refinery by three days, to Monday. Planned
flaring events have been reported regularly at the plant since
June.
BP PLC said Wednesday two employees have been hospitalized after
suffering steam burns the day before while performing work at a
process unit at its Texas City, Texas, refinery.
Flint Hills Resources Tuesday submitted advance notice of the
planned startup of an FCCU and sulfur recovery unit, shut since
around September 10, but again warned that the timing is an
estimate and may vary significantly from the actual event.
BP PLC again notified California state environmental regulators
of its intention to flare excess emissions at its Los Angeles-area
refinery in Carson starting on Wednesday and ending on Friday. The
notice to the South Coast Air Quality Management District did not
say which unit or units would be involved in the event.
The number two FCCU at Citgo's 163,000 barrel-a-day refinery in
Corpus Christi, Texas, was taken out of service on Sunday after a
malfunction of a gas compressor. The unit will be restarted as soon
as repairs are complete. A crude unit in the east plant section of
the plant was shut Thursday to repair a leak.
Pasadena Refining Systems, a division of PetroBras, experienced
a five-hour emissions event beginning late Sunday at it's 100,000
barrel-a-day refinery in Pasadena, Texas. The cause was a down gas
compressor, which has forced the takedown of a FCC unit. An attempt
was made to restart the compressor before shutting down the unit
for repair.
ConocoPhillips reported unplanned flaring at its
139,000-barrel-a-day Wilmington, Calif. refinery for 30 minutes on
Monday. The company had previously notified regulators of a 20-day
planned flaring event scheduled to begin on Sept. 10.
