Total SE said Tuesday that the government of Norway has approved
the final investment decision for a carbon-dioxide sequestration
project the company plans to launch with Royal Dutch Shell PLC and
Equinor ASA in the Northern North Sea.
The French oil-and-gas major said the project, which is called
"Northern Lights", includes the development and operation of CO2
transport and storage facilities. Phase one is expected to be
completed in 2024.
Merger clearances are underway and the partners are in the
process of establishing a joint venture responsible for the project
activities, Total said.
