Brazilian mobile-phone subscriptions rose to 187.0 million in July, up 1.0% from June, according to figures released Friday by telecommunications regulator Anatel.

Net additions totaled 1.89 million in July compared with 1.42 million net additions in June, Anatel said.

Vivo Participacoes SA (VIV, VIVO4.BR) maintained market leadership in June with a 30.25% share of subscriptions, compared with 30.24% in June. Spain's Telefonica SA (TEF, TEF.MC) recently agreed to buy Portugal Telecom SGPS SA's (PT, PTC.LB) share in Vivo's controlling group.

Claro, the local unit of Mexico's America Movil SA (AMOV, AMX.MX), was second in July with a 25.42% share, up from 25.33% in June.

TIM Participacoes SA (TSU, TCSL4.BR) was in third place with 24.05%, slightly up from 24.00% the month before. TIM is the local unit of Telecom Italia SpA (TIA, TIT.MI).

Fourth-place mobile-phone operator Oi (TNE, TNLP4.BR) registered a share of 19.93% in June, down from 20.08% the previous month.
