Portugal Telecom: No Agreement Signed To Buy Oi Stake

Portugal Telecom SGPS SA (PT) Tuesday said it hasn't reached an
agreement to buy a stake in Brazilian telecommunications company
Oi.
In a filing to the Portuguese market regulator, Portugal Telecom
said it hadn't "signed any agreement or pre-agreement with the
objective to acquire an equity stake in Oi."
However, Portugal Telecom didn't say whether the two companies
were in talks.
Local media and analysts have speculated that Portugal Telecom
could buy a stake in Oi in order to keep a presence in Brazil,
should it sell its stake in Vivo Participacoes SA (VIV) to
Telefonica SA (TEF), which made a bid for PT's stake in Vivo.
