Brazil Antitrust Body Approves Telecom Italia-Telefonica Deal
April 28 2010 - 3:42PM
Dow Jones News
Brazilian antitrust regulator Cade on Wednesday approved the
2007 purchase of control in Telecom Italia SpA (TI, TIT.MI) by a
group led by Spain's Telefonica SA (TEF, TEF.MC).
The decision, which had long been anticipated, is dependent on
the continued observance of an undertaking to keep Telecom Italia's
local mobile telephone unit, TIM Participacoes SA (TSU, TCSL4.BR),
and Telefonica's mobile unit, Vivo Participacoes SA (VIV,
VIVO4.BR), running independently.
Brazilian telecom-industry regulator Anatel imposed the
restriction in 2009.
