Chairman and CEO Jay Hooley Accepts 2016 Lewis Family Foundation
CEO Social Leadership Award
State Street Corporation (NYSE:STT) today announced that it has
been named to The Boston Business Journal’s (BBJ) 2016 list of Top
Charitable Companies in Massachusetts. The list includes 85
companies that gave at least $100,000 to Massachusetts-based
charities in 2015.
In 2015 the State Street Foundation invested nearly $23 million
in the communities in which it operates globally, including more
than $15 million in Massachusetts. With a primary strategic focus
on education and workforce development, in June 2015 the State
Street Foundation launched the Boston Workforce Investment Network
(Boston WINs), a $20 million commitment to five local and national
nonprofit organizations collaborating to advance job readiness and
create meaningful career paths for Boston youth.
“We believe it’s our responsibility to take on a strategic and
active role in community service,” said State Street Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer Jay Hooley. “Our employees have rallied
behind this objective, donating more than 100,000 hours of
volunteer time in 2015 alone. This honor from the BBJ is a direct
reflection of their dedication and commitment to supporting the
communities in which they live and work.”
State Street was honored at the BBJ’s 11th Annual Corporate
Citizenship Summit which took place on September 8 at the EpiCenter
at Artists for Humanity in Boston.
Hooley was also honored at the event with the 2016 Lewis Family
Foundation CEO Social Leadership Award, which recognizes
exceptional civic leadership by executives in the Boston business
community and includes a $25,000 grant to be used for charitable
purposes. The grant is funded by the Lewis Family Foundation, led
by Alan and Harriet Lewis, owners of Grand Circle Travel, and is
administered with the help of the BBJ. Hooley was selected for his
dedication to workforce development and education, and specifically
the State Street Foundation’s development of Boston WINs.
“The BBJ is proud to honor Jay Hooley with the 2016 Lewis Family
Foundation CEO Social Leadership Award,” said Carolyn Jones,
publisher, Boston Business Journal. “Jay’s commitment and
dedication to helping Boston’s youth to be better prepared for the
workforce of the future is a model of venture philanthropy. We
truly appreciate his efforts and leadership in this space.”
