State Street Corporation (NYSE:STT), has been named the No.1 charitable contributor in Massachusetts by the Boston Business Journal (BBJ). The BBJ’s ranking looked at companies that gave at least $100,000 to local nonprofits in 2012. The BBJ also ranked State Street as one of the top three charitable contributors for five years in a row.

“We are honored to be named the top charitable contributor in Massachusetts by the Boston Business Journal,” said Alison Quirk, executive vice president and chief human resources and citizenship officer at State Street. “Giving back to the communities in which we work and live is an integral part of our culture. Last year, our employees globally gave more than 87,000 hours of volunteer time to nonprofit groups and donated approximately $2.7 million through State Street’s Matching Gift program and Global Giving Campaign.”

State Street’s Foundation provided more than $21 million in charitable contributions globally in 2012 and was recently cited by CR magazine and Business in the Community for being a top corporate citizen. Last month, Working Mother magazine named State Street to its 2013 100 Best Companies listing for its commitment to progressive workplace programs, including child care, flexibility and paid family leave.
