Utility answers call of National Grid to assist in restoration
efforts NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Public
Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) today dispatched about 85
employees to Auburn, Massachusetts to help National Grid restore
power to residents affected by last week's severe ice storm. The
PSE&G contingent includes about 55 line personnel, and more
than 55 vehicles from different locations throughout New Jersey.
National Grid had reached out to PSE&G mid-day Sunday and
requested help restoring electric service in the Worcester,
Massachusetts area. The ice storm brought down trees, utility
poles, power lines and other equipment, making restoration
difficult and time consuming. New England utilities estimate that
power should be fully restored by the end of week, when PSE&G
crews are expected to return to New Jersey. 'Mutual aid' is an
arrangement between utilities that allows for the sharing of
resources such as labor and equipment during emergencies. The
hosting utility reimburses for associated costs. Public Service
Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is New Jersey's oldest and
largest regulated gas and electric delivery utility, serving nearly
three-quarters of the state's population. PSE&G is the winner
of the ReliabilityOne Award for superior electric system
reliability. PSE&G is a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise
Group Incorporated (PSEG) (NYSE:PEG), a diversified energy company
