TOLEDO, Ohio, July 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Owens Corning (NYSE: OC) has been honored by achieving an "A" rating for quality, and receiving the well-respected "Partners of Choice" Award from David Weekley Homes, the second largest for-profit, privately-held U.S. home builder.  Of approximately 150 companies surveyed, only 10 were recognized by receiving an "A" award for either quality or service. This is the second consecutive year that Owens Corning has received this honor.

The award is based on David Weekley Homes' unique and ground-breaking supplier evaluation program.  At the heart of the program is its "National Trading Partner Survey," a monthly evaluation where more than 500 team members throughout the company and the country rate 150 suppliers on both quality and service performance. Each supplier's numeric scores are averaged, and then an alpha ranking from "A" to "F" in 20-percent increments is assigned relative to its standing with all of Weekley's other national trading partners. Only suppliers maintaining an "A, A" ranking for both quality and service or an "A" ranking in either quality or service are eligible for a coveted "Partners of Choice" Award.

Bill Justus, Vice President of Supply Chain Services for David Weekley Homes, explains that the concept behind the survey is what he calls channel alignment.  "The National Trading Partner Survey challenges our manufacturing partners to actively manage the supply chain to insure everyone efficiently delivers high quality products at competitive prices to their customer, David Weekley Homes."  Justus continues, "Owens Corning continues to demonstrate consistently through their daily actions that they are among the best when compared to approximately 150 companies that participate in our survey."

"Owens Corning is focused on providing our customers with products and solutions that provide true value differentiation, making them more successful," said Chuck Dana, President of Owens Corning's Building Materials Group. "When we provide products and solutions to our customers, it is important that we meet their needs in every interaction, every day.  David Weekley Homes has found an effective way to measure and compare diverse suppliers' performance through its National Trading Partner Survey. I am proud of the Owens Corning team members that are focused on helping David Weekley Homes provide their customers with beautiful, comfortable, and energy-efficient homes."
