ConAgra Recalls Chicken Product On Possible Salmonella - USDA
June 18 2010 - 12:54AM
Dow Jones News
ConAgra Foods Inc. (CAG) is recalling all its Marie Callender's
brand Cheesy Chicken and Rice frozen meals after the product became
suspect during the investigation of a salmonella outbreak that has
sickened 29 people in 14 states, the U.S. Department of Agriculture
said in statement released late Thursday.
"Eight of the case-patients specifically reported eating this
product in April and May, 2010, prior to illness onset," the USDA
said. "The last reported illness was reported on May 22."
ConAgra called the recall a "precautionary" measure and said it
has been aiding in the salmonella outbreak investigation although
there "is no definitive link between the recalled product and any
illness."
Salmonella can be deadly, especially to people with weak immune
systems and the elderly. Common symptoms of salmonellosis are
diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever.
