/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CGI Group Inc. (TSX: GIB.A; NYSE: GIB)
announced today that CGI and the Commonwealth of Virginia received
the Innovation in Government award from Virginia Commonwealth
University (VCU) for the eVA e-procurement program. The
Commonwealth of Virginia partnered with CGI to develop eVA, a
statewide electronic purchasing solution, to increase the
efficiency of both state and local government procurement. Since
2001, the Commonwealth has used eVA to process over 1.5 million
orders to buy $14 billion of products and services. In addition to
pioneering eVA, CGI today supports the system through a managed
services contract for application management, development and
maintenance, ensuring that even greater benefits will be realized
for Virginia. "Today, with more than 12,500 eVA users statewide,
eVA allows us to buy goods and services faster, easier, and at best
value using a single on-line source, saving our taxpayers money
while streamlining processing for our vendors. Through the eVA
program, we have cut order processing costs up to 50% and reduced
processing time in some cases up to 70%," said Ron Bell, Virginia's
Director of the Division of Purchases and Supply, Department of
General Services. "eVA is a prime example of how CGI helps clients
leverage technology solutions for more efficient and effective
government," said Nazzic Turner, Senior Vice-President and General
Manager, CGI. "We gratefully acknowledge the partnership and vision
of the Commonwealth leadership and also extend our appreciation to
the Wilder School at VCU for recognizing our team efforts. Working
together, CGI and the Commonwealth have set a new standard for
e-procurement nationwide." The Excellence in Virginia Government
Awards program is the signature event of VCU's L. Douglas Wilder
School of Government and Public Affairs. Held each year in late
November, the awards celebrate outstanding public and private
individuals and organizations that have made noteworthy
contributions to the practice of government and to the welfare of
Virginia's communities and citizens. CGI's Global Government
