BlackRock, Inc. (BLK) said Friday it has appointed Mark McCombe as its Asia-Pacific chairman. McCombe was most recently HSBC's (HBC) Hong Kong chief executive.

McCombe--who was also previously chief executive of HSBC Asset Management in London, will become a member of the company's global executive and global operating committee and will report to Laurence Fink, BlackRock's chairman and chief executive.

He replaces Rohit Bhagat, whose two-year term as chairman is ending.

"We've expanded significantly in the region in recent years and, with a leader of Mark's caliber joining our team, I am confident we can accelerate the growth of our business and brand in Asia and continue strengthening the investment capabilities needed to help our clients achieve their financial objectives," Fink said in a statement.
