Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) today announced the
appointments of Valmor Schaffer to president, ADM South America,
and John Grossmann to vice president, South American Oilseeds.
“We believe our South American origination, processing and
export businesses, which are vital to ADM’s overall growth
strategy, will benefit from the expertise and experience of Valmor
and John,” said Juan Luciano, ADM chief operating officer. “With
their direction and extensive management backgrounds, ADM will
continue to demonstrate the kind of outstanding performance we have
achieved in this region in recent years.”
As president, ADM South America, Schaffer will coordinate growth
activity across all ADM business lines in the region and manage
ADM’s oilseed business in Brazil. He brings a broad range of
agribusiness expertise, a deep knowledge of ADM operations and an
outstanding track record to his new role.
He joined ADM’s Brazilian grain origination operations in 1999
and served as president, ADM Paraguay, and, subsequently, as
general manager of the ADM-SAO joint venture in Bolivia, which
included oversight of operations in Peru and Colombia. Schaffer has
studied economics at Brazil’s Faculdades Integradas do Triângulo
and earlier studied foreign trade at Universidade do Vale do Rio
dos Sinos (Unisinos) in Brazil.
In his new role, Grossmann will lead ADM’s South American
oilseeds business, excluding operations in Brazil, and will report
to Schaffer. He joined ADM in 1998 and has held various positions
in ADM’s North and South American Oilseeds processing operations.
He most recently served as president, ADM Paraguay. Grossmann is an
agronomist who holds a master’s degree in business administration
from the Brazilian university Fundação Getulio Vargas.
