Aetna (NYSE: AET), a leading global diversified health care
benefits company, announced today that Matthew Hunt has been
appointed managing director, Health Services, of Aetna
International. In this role, Hunt will focus on further expanding
Aetna’s Health Management Services business, which uses clinical
analytics and wellness programmes to help improve health care
quality and outcomes for governments and corporate employers around
the globe. Hunt’s responsibilities will include the existing UK
health management business which delivers health care management
solutions and commissioning support services for the NHS.
Hunt joins Aetna from McKesson Technology Solutions where he
served as vice president of international sales and marketing. In
that role, he established the care management business for
McKesson’s international operations group.
“We are delighted to have Matthew joining Aetna at such a
pivotal time for global health care and for Aetna International,”
said Sandip Patel, head of Aetna International. “Many global health
economies face similar challenges stemming from an aging population
coupled with a greater incidence of chronic illness and metabolic
disease. We’re also seeing lifestyle choices becoming more a
prevalent cause of chronic conditions, a trend that is contributing
to an alarming growth in health care costs across the globe.
Governments, providers and employers share the challenge of
developing and managing models of care that respond to these
significant demands.”
In the UK, Aetna has been working with various Primary Care
Trusts and GP organisations since 2007, delivering health data
analytic, care management, wellness and other commissioning-related
services. As experts in clinical analytics, Aetna uses data to
understand the health needs of a specific population and
proactively target wellness programmes and services that are
relevant to that population. Aetna’s health management services
experience extends globally, including the UK, U.S., China and the
Middle East, where the company is helping providers, employers and
government entities reduce health care costs, such as unnecessary
medical utilisation, and improve quality of care and health
outcomes.
“Joining a team with an already successful track record of
providing high quality patient-centred solutions is hugely
rewarding,” said Hunt. “Aetna is committed to the continued support
of the NHS as the UK evolves its health care form efforts. We also
are focused on expanding and growing the business for Aetna’s
corporate clientele in helping to manage the health of employee
populations.”
Hunt began his career in sales and marketing for the medical and
financial sectors, serving in positions of increasing
responsibility. In 2004 he joined global medical assistance company
International SOS as its European director of patient support
services and in 2008 was named corporate development director for
Northern Europe. The following year, Hunt joined McKesson as
director of care management and subsequently was named to his most
recent post. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Liverpool
John Moores University.
