Mandiant Stock Rises on Report of Microsoft Interest, Better-Than-Expected Results -- Barrons.com

By Joe Woelfel
Shares of Mandiant were rising in premarket trading Wednesday after a report said Microsoft was in talks to acquire the cybersecurity software and services company, and Mandiant posted a fourth-quarter adjusted loss that was narrower than expectations.
Mandiant (MNDT) was rising 3.9% to $18.44. The stock spiked 18% on Tuesday after Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the discussions, reported that Microsoft (MSFT) was in talks to acquire Mandiant. The deliberations may not result in an offer, the people said. Mandiant and Microsoft declined to comment for Bloomberg.
Barron's sent email inquiries to both companies off-hours but has yet to receive a reply.
Mandiant was split off from FireEye last year in a deal with a consortium led by Symphony Technology Group for $1.2 billion. Mandiant was acquired by FireEye in 2013 for about $1 billion.
Mandiant was in the news recently after News Corp hired the company to support an investigation of a hack that accessed emails and documents of some employees, including journalists. News Corp owns Dow Jones, the parent of Barron's.
Mandiant reported a fourth-quarter adjusted loss of 10 cents a share, narrower than Wall Street forecasts that called for a loss of 13 cents a share. Revenue in the fourth quarter was $132.9 million, higher than $110.3 million a year earlier and above analysts' estimates of $131.5 million.
