SEVEN Networks Uses Equinix to Connect to Growing Mobile Ecosystem
February 10 2011 - 8:00AM
Business Wire
Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq:EQIX), a provider of global data center
services, today announced that SEVEN® Networks, a provider
of Real Life, Real Time™ mobile solutions, has selected Equinix’s
Silicon Valley data center campus to house its core infrastructure
services and gain direct access to strategic business partners
within the Equinix mobile ecosystem. SEVEN will leverage Platform
Equinix for colocation and employ the Equinix Internet Exchange™ to
move data securely, efficiently and with minimal latency.
SEVEN Networks helps carriers and handset manufacturers deliver
an enhanced mobile experience through its push-based software
platform and applications that deliver data to devices in a way
that is network efficient. To date, more than eight million
accounts are actively synchronized on mobile devices using SEVEN,
and the network supports more than six billion transactions per
month. As SEVEN continues its profitable growth, it needs to
efficiently scale its infrastructure and expand into new markets
worldwide. The ability to rapidly add server hardware and new
deployments across Equinix’s global platform, as well as establish
new peering relationships with global content providers via the
Equinix Internet Exchange, will help SEVEN grow rapidly.
“As SEVEN has expanded and established business relationships
with the mobile community, direct network connectivity has become a
critical component of our infrastructure,” said David Ratner, chief
operating officer of SEVEN Networks. “We chose Equinix for its
network density, wide range of services and impeccable reputation.
Additionally, the power of Equinix’s global platform paired with
its growing ecosystem of mobile customers ensures SEVEN can run a
profitable business while pursuing new market opportunities.”
SEVEN will deploy its new mobile traffic optimization solution,
Open Channel™, inside Equinix. Open Channel reduces traffic from
mobile devices by up to 70 percent and works by monitoring all
network access requests from mobile apps and only connecting to the
network if new updates are available. Currently, apps like
Facebook, email, Twitter, IM, weather and others send hundreds of
these requests daily, consuming significant network bandwidth and
signaling resources.
Employing state-of-the-art physical security, Equinix
International Business Exchange™ (IBX) centers are built to protect
and connect the most critical information-driven operations of
businesses worldwide. In addition to traffic from top-tier
carriers, a significant amount of traffic flowing in and out of
SEVEN’s networks is attributed to application providers such as
Microsoft, Yahoo and Google. Equinix allows SEVEN to directly
connect with providers instead of relying on the public Internet.
As a result, SEVEN has access to reliable bandwidth and
connectivity, which reduces cost and improves security.
“According to Cisco, mobile data traffic is expected to grow
39-fold by 2014. With consumers and businesses relying on mobile
devices to access everything from social networks and bank accounts
to mission-critical enterprise applications, mobile data services
must keep pace and meet user expectations,” said Jim Poole, General
Manager, Global Networks and Mobility for Equinix. “Platform
Equinix houses best-of-breed mobility companies, including
operators, content and Internet service providers and hosted
application providers. SEVEN understands the revenue opportunity
this presents to its business, and we are pleased to be supporting
their goals.”
Equinix will be located in Hall 4, space 4.7HS12 at GMSA Mobile
World Congress in Barcelona February 14-17, 2011. Click here for
