NBCUniversal has overhauled its television-production units
under Pearlena Igbokwe, a fast-rising executive who has been
promoted to chairman, Universal Studio Group, the company said
Wednesday.
The move puts Ms. Igbokwe over NBCUniversal's various content
production arms, an important role as the unit is relied upon to
develop content for the company's various platforms including the
NBC broadcast network, cable channels such as USA and Bravo and the
new streaming service Peacock. She will report to NBCUniversal
Chief Executive Jeff Shell.
"Our television studios are key growth engines for the company,
and Pearlena is ideally suited to lead them. She has extraordinary
taste and is well-respected within NBCU, and throughout the global
creative community," Mr. Shell said.
Bonnie Hammer, a veteran executive who had been chairman of the
unit, has been named vice chairman of NBCUniversal and will serve
as an advisor to the company's entertainment operations, also
reporting to Mr. Shell.
The moves are part of an ongoing realignment at the Comcast
Corp.-owned entertainment company under Mr. Shell who succeeded
Steve Burke as chief executive earlier this year. Mr. Shell has
pushed to streamline much of its operations and reduce redundancies
throughout the company.
