CME: Crude Trades Halted Briefly By Electronic Order, Data Glitches
April 16 2010 - 12:20PM
Dow Jones News
Nymex crude oil trading was halted for several minutes during a
period of heavy volume after traders reported problems placing
orders and receiving market data, according to an exchange
spokeswoman.
No trades were processed between 11:19 a.m. and 11:24 a.m. EDT.
Volume was high before the halt, as oil prices were falling rapidly
following news reports that the Securities and Exchange Commission
is charging Goldman Sachs (GS) with fraud.
The problems were centered on order routing and market data on
Globex, Nymex operator CME Group Inc.'s (CME) electronic trading
platform, said Anu Ahluwalia, a CME spokeswoman.
"Everything is running normally now, we're just trying to figure
out what happened," Ahluwalia said.
