Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), the leader in secure document
management, today announced that Cherryvale Elementary in Sumter,
S.C., is the grand prize winner of its inaugural Documen-Tree
contest. As a result, the school will win five unique, historical
trees from AMERICAN FORESTS’ Historic Tree Program in honor of
Earth Month in April. Additionally, Cintas will award the school
with $5,000 for new school supplies.
“We are thrilled to have won the contest and our students look
forward to the historic tree planting ceremony with Cintas and
AMERICAN FORESTS,” said Cathy Perry, Third Grade Science Teacher at
Cherryvale Elementary. “We plan to use the grand prize money to
enhance our environmental programs and continue to teach students
ways they can reduce their impact on the environment and make the
earth a better place to live.”
Since August 2010, students across the nation entered Cintas’
Documen-Tree contest by submitting a creative video or text
submission stating why they thought their school deserved to win.
Receiving more than 3,000 votes from the public, students at
Cherryvale Elementary won for their video titled “The Recycling
Rangers.” The video starred students involved in the school earth
club and energy team. The ‘Rangers’ highlighted creative ways their
school helps save the environment, which includes creating art
projects out of recyclable materials and implementing a waste
reduction program in the cafeteria.
In addition to the five historic trees and $5,000 cash prize,
100 trees will be donated in Cherryvale Elementary’s name to an
AMERICAN FORESTS’ Global ReLeaf restoration project. This program
restores forests, which is important for wildlife, clean water and
carbon sequestration. Cintas Document Management will also host a
free SmartShred™ event for the school and community. The event will
help protect community members from identity theft and help drive
recycling efforts. All of the shredded documents will be recycled
into secondary paper products, such as paper towels, to reduce
waste and impact on the environment.
Three runner-ups, which include Greenville Elementary School in
Scarsdale, N.Y., Ouida Springer Elementary School in Rockwall,
Texas, and Yargo Elementary School in Winder, Ga., will receive two
historic trees for their school along with an educational program
teaching students and the community about the significance of the
trees and how to care for them. All other contest finalists will
receive a pizza party from Cintas for their hard work and
dedication to their school’s sustainability initiatives.
“We are pleased to have energized hundreds of students about
sustainability and recycling through the Documen-Tree contest and
are thankful to all participants,” said Brittney Kirk, Marketing
Associate, Cintas Document Management. “Cintas Document Management
has a strong commitment to the environment and we look forward to
awarding Cherryvale Elementary students for their efforts and
educating them about the importance of protecting their identities
through their SmartShred Day.”
Cintas partnered with AMERICAN FORESTS to host the inaugural
Documen-Tree contest. It is designed to educate and create
awareness nationwide about the positive impact trees and recycling
have on the environment.
