Since September, hundreds of people across the nation have entered Cintas’ contest for the chance to win a trip to New York City to watch their funny, heartfelt and forgettable memories of 2010 get shredded into pieces on Good Riddance Day. Cintas has narrowed down the submissions to 10 finalists and now it’s up to the public to determine the winner. Anyone can participate by visiting www.cintas.com/goodriddanceday to vote for their favorite entry. Voting ends on Friday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. Eastern. The grand prize winner will receive a five-night trip to New York City to destroy their item in person on Good Riddance Day on Dec. 28, and ring in the New Year in Times Square.

The grand prize winner will receive:

  • Gail Donaldson from Duluth, Ga., wants to shred the paper trail from homeschooling her son for eight years
  • Bruce Grimm from Longview, Wash., wants to shred poor customer service
  • Michael Keselica from Tinley Park, Ill., wants to shred his frustration of unemployment
  • Debbie Kulas from Monson, Mass., wants to shred all the sickness she witnessed in 2010 while working at a hospital
  • Denise Larkin from Ocala, Fla., wants to shred her 12-year-old daughter’s surgical gown and the 13 surgeries she has battled throughout her childhood
  • Jillian Marsala from Palatine, Ill., would like to shred the grief that losing her mother to pancreatic cancer has caused her family, especially her father
  • Laurie Picadio from Oxford, Ohio, wants to shred her unsuccessful marriage and accreditation materials from work
  • Jillian Roberts from Turlock, Calif., would like to shred the 13-year-old Lazy-Boy with broken springs that her husband loves to sit in
  • Kathleen Selman from Tampa, Fla., wants to shred her twins’ constant two-year-old temper tantrums

For this annual New Year’s tradition, Cintas is providing one of its large, mobile shredding trucks in Times Square for participants to shred all their bad memories from 2010. Participants can bring anything from a picture of an old flame to a pink slip or pile of parking tickets.

Cintas teamed up with the co-organizers of New Year’s Eve in Times Square, the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, to invite the public to say goodbye, once and for all, to the bad memories of 2010. The event will take place on Dec. 28, in Broadway Plaza between 46th and 47th Streets from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The event is open to the public to discard any unpleasant, embarrassing and downright depressing memories from 2010.
