Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS), the leader in secure document management, today announced it is partnering with AMERICAN FORESTS to host the inaugural Documen-Tree contest. The contest is designed to educate and create awareness nationwide about the positive impact trees have on the environment. One school or community will be awarded five unique, historical trees from AMERICAN FORESTS’ Historic Tree Program to be planted in honor of Earth Month along with $5,000 for new school or community supplies. To enter, participants must submit a creative video that is 90 seconds or less, or an online submission stating why they think their school or community deserves to win. Submissions can be made at: www.cintas.com/documentree

“Cintas Document Management and AMERICAN FORESTS both have a strong commitment to sustainability and strive to make the earth a better place to live,” said Pamela Coleman, Senior Director of Supplier Diversity & Sustainability, Cintas Document Management. “This contest provides contestants the chance to make an impact in their school or community, while having fun and learning about the environment.”

The grand prize winner will receive:

  • Five historic trees from AMERICAN FORESTS’ Historic Tree Program to be planted in honor of Earth Month in April. The trees will bring history alive by sharing America’s stories as each will have a unique connection to a famous person, place or event in history
  • $5,000 for new school or community supplies
  • A special planting ceremony combined with an educational program about tree planting
  • 100 trees donated in the organization’s name to an AMERICAN FORESTS’ Global ReLeaf restoration project. This program restores forests which is important for wildlife, clean water and carbon sequestration
  • A free shred event for the community powered by Cintas Document Management to protect against identity theft. All of the shredded documents will be recycled into secondary paper products, such as paper towels, to reduce waste and impact on the environment

In addition, three runner-ups will receive two historic trees for their school along with an educational program teaching students and the community about the significance of the trees and how to care for them.

This contest is in addition to Cintas’ ongoing partnership with AMERICAN FORESTS' Global ReLeaf program. For every order that Cintas’ catalog division receives containing one of its eco-apparel products, Cintas plants one tree through the Global ReLeaf program. To date, this partnership has resulted in planting more than 4,000 trees.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Cintas for the Documen-Tree contest,” said Jennifer Rankin, Historic Tree Program Director, AMERICAN FORESTS. “Winning historical trees is a unique way for students and communities to connect to our past while making a positive environmental impact on our future.”

Entries must be received by 5 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 30, 2010.
