SUWANEE, Ga., April 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ARRIS
(Nasdaq: ARRS) today introduced the newest member of its
ConvergeMedia Distribution platform: XMS FLEX, powered by a next
generation Streaming Media Engine (SME). The ConvergeMedia
XMS FLEX is a flexible, feature-rich, commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) server with SME scalable content delivery software to
support the industry's broadest range of video applications.
Service providers face several important challenges in
transitioning to next generation services for IP-based,
multi-screen video delivery. These challenges include the
need for the highest performance and density at the lowest possible
cost, the requirement for streaming resiliency to optimize
availability, and the desire to deploy a single platform that
supports the full range of video application. ConvergeMedia
XMS FLEX with SME addresses all of these challenges, combining COTS
server technology and adaptive storage with proven media delivery
software to provide the flexibility for any market size, deployment
architecture or video application. XMS FLEX offers the choice
between 1Gbps and 10Gbps streaming modules as well as internal and
external storage modules, scaling up to 30Gbps of fully redundant
streaming bandwidth per 2RU chassis and up to 384Terabytes of
content storage and caching. Multiple XMS FLEX servers may be
deployed with the ARRIS ConvergeMedia Management Platform to offer
unequalled streaming and storage capacity in a cloud-based
architecture.
Key highlights of the XMS FLEX/SME include:
- High-density, Linux-based COTS platform for deployment in a
managed Content Delivery Network (CDN)
- Multiple codec, container and transport protocol support for
delivery of multi-screen services
- Single platform for Video on Demand, time-shifted TV, linear,
and advanced advertising applications
- Independent scaling of ingest, storage and streaming with
support for Adaptive Streaming technologies (Smooth Streaming,
Apple HTTP-Live Streaming)
- Streaming resiliency for high availability
- Performance tuning for any application through its storage
versatility
"XMS FLEX meets the needs of service providers around the world
as they migrate to CDN-based video distribution," said ARRIS VP
& GM, On Demand Unit Joe Matarese. "FLEX's versatility
and configurability allow it to hit the performance 'sweet spot' at
both the core and the edge of the network, while bringing the
ability to independently add and scale resources without service
disruption."
XMS FLEX is part of the ARRIS ConvergeMedia Distribution
platform, a complete solution for the delivery, management and
monetization of next generation IP Video multi-screen services.
ConvergeMedia is the combination of ARRIS video server,
assurance and back-office software, on demand and advertising
