Products for ANGA 2006 Demonstration of Consumer-Driven, On Demand,
On-the-Fly Service Selection and Bandwidth Allocation C-COR
Incorporated (NASDAQ:CCBL) and ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS), leading
technology providers to the global communications marketplace, are
showcasing at the ANGA Cable Trade Fair 2006 in Cologne, Germany
(May 30-June 1, 2006) a joint demonstration of on demand bandwidth
allocation for VOD and other triple play services that creates
value to the consumer and potential revenue streams to the cable
operator. Two joint demonstrations, one each in C-COR's Booth D-14
and in ARRIS' Booth H-20, combine C-COR's Policy Service Manager
(PSM(TM)) and the ARRIS Cadant(R) C3(TM) CMTS (Cable Modem
Termination System) to support a TurboButton application that
allows the cable subscriber to dynamically and on-the-fly request a
selected service and a specific allocation of bandwidth for a high
quality viewing experience. "Cable operators are approaching a
major crossroad," said Rod Peery, C-COR's Director of Sales, EMEA.
"They have a choice of becoming a seller of commodity bandwidth or
leveraging the intelligent-based technology demonstrated by C-COR
and ARRIS to deliver the quality of service that retains and gains
customers while opening up advanced billing methods, such as
usage-based, prepaid, pay-per-use, and on demand, for additional
revenues." "This PacketCable Multimedia-based technology enables
many new, dynamic services for cable operators," said Charles
Cheevers, ARRIS CTO, Europe. "With this technology, cable operators
can enhance their present network capabilities to further
differentiate their offerings from competitors' services and lead
the broadband industry. We are excited about demonstrating this
unique PCMM-based feature on the C3 ahead of its general
availability, which is anticipated to be in the second half of this
year." C-COR's Policy Service Manager provides dynamic, on demand
bandwidth management to enable many of today's popular multimedia
applications such as video-on-demand, gaming, and Internet
telephony. PSM ensures standards-based quality of service (QoS)
based on CableLabs(R) PacketCable(TM) Multimedia (PCMM)
specifications. It provides cable operators with a powerful set of
capabilities, including: -- Dynamic adjustments to bandwidth to
ensure QoS for real-time and multimedia applications, eliminate
capital costs of over-provisioning, and enable potential revenue
from bandwidth-on-demand; -- Standards-based to interface with
industry-leading CMTS vendors and back office recordkeeping servers
for event-based billing; -- Application Management and Service
Level control for subscribers to enable advanced billing options;
-- Distributed architecture to scale to any scope or capacity; --
Proactive congestion management to allow bandwidth management based
on projected network congestion conditions; and -- Security to
proactively prevent network abuse and bandwidth consumption beyond
Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The ARRIS Cadant C3 CMTS is
DOCSIS(R) 2.0 qualified / Euro-DOCSIS 2.0 based and has the
versatility to provide a wide array of residential and commercial
services (high speed data, VoIP, Layer 2 VPN, DS1, Wireless
DOCSIS). A digital receiver, ingress noise cancellation and
advanced error correction capability provide superior RF
performance for challenging HFC plant conditions. The high density
design (3,000 registered cable modems in 1RU) has the configuration
flexibility (2, 4 or 6 upstream channels) to match anticipated
traffic patterns. Traffic load balancing between upstream channels
is done periodically based on bandwidth utilization. Layer 3
routing (OSPF, RIP, static) and Layer 2 bridging are provisionable
on a per sub-interface basis. A dual processor architecture with
Fast/Gigabit Ethernet interfaces facilitates high packet
throughput. About C-COR C-COR offers world-class, market-focused
