Apigee's Bryan Kirschner to Speak at 2015 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium

Over 700 CIOs and Senior IT Executives will Collaborate on This Year's Theme: "Inventing Your Future: Accelerating Success through Technology"

Taking place May 20, 2015 on the MIT campus, the one-day conference provides CIOs with high-level insight from leading academic research combined with the counsel of successful business leaders.

The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium is the premier global conference for CIOs and digital business executives to become more effective leaders. This year's theme, "Inventing Your Future: Accelerating Success through Technology," will draw heavily from two books originating from the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy – the New York Times best seller, The Second Machine Age, by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee, and the new book, Leading Digital: Turning Technology into Business Transformation, by George Westerman, Didier Bonnet and Andrew McAfee.

Panel: Platform Shift: How New Business Models are Changing the Shape of Industry -- and the Role of CIOs

This panel will discuss how companies that transform their traditional business models into platforms (or "network models") may have a competitive advantage based on new insights into pricing, network effects, supply chains, and strategy. The session will review how "dotcom" companies like Airbnb, Amazon, and Uber leveraged the platform model to attract millions of customers worldwide, in a relatively short time, and how this model can also apply to traditional product companies like Sony, retail brands like Nike, and spice companies like McCormick. The panel will discuss how new platform business models can help virtually any company extend existing transactions to new, associated products and services. Attendees of this discussion will have an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the secrets of Internet-driven platforms and how CIOs are embracing them within their companies.
