HOYT LAKES, MINNESOTA (AMEX: PLM) ("PolyMet" or the "Company")
reported today that the State of Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources ("MDNR") has advised that it will not complete the Draft
Environmental Impact Statement ("DEIS") for PolyMet's project by
the end of the first quarter 2008. PolyMet's project comprises the
NorthMet copper-nickel-precious metals ore-body and the nearby Erie
Plant, located near Hoyt Lakes in the established mining district
of the Mesabi Iron Range in northeastern Minnesota.
In order to make the draft EIS as thorough and complete as
possible, extra time is being taken by the MDNR to validate and
verify sampling, monitoring, and modeling data. The MDNR
anticipates the validation and drafting of the draft EIS will be
completed before the end of the second quarter of 2008.
"The EIS process is complicated, difficult and at times
frustrating, but significant progress is being made toward
completion," stated LaTisha Gietzen Vice President of Public,
Government, and Environmental Affairs for PolyMet.
PolyMet Mining Corp. (www.polymetmining.com) is a
publicly-traded mine development company that controls 100% of the
NorthMet copper-nickel-precious metals ore body through a long-term
lease and 100% of the Erie Plant, a large processing facility
located approximately six miles from the ore body in the
established mining district of the Mesabi Range in northeastern
Minnesota. PolyMet has completed its Definitive Feasibility Study
and is seeking environmental and operating permits to enable it to
commence production in the second half of 2009. The NorthMet
project is expected to require approximately one million man hours
of construction labor and create at least 400 long-term jobs, a
level of activity that will have a significant multiplier effect in
the local economy.
