The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TRV) today announced that
the 2017 Travelers Championship generated more than $1.6 million
for charity. The tournament provides 100 percent of its net
proceeds to nonprofits throughout New England and will help support
more than 160 worthy organizations this year, including the primary
beneficiary, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Founded in 1988 by
Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides a camp
experience for children facing serious illnesses.
“Giving back will always be the most important part of the
Travelers Championship, and we couldn’t be more proud of what the
tournament does for so many important charities and the local
economy,” said Alan Schnitzer, Chief Executive Officer of
Travelers. “It was another great week of world-class golf, with the
largest crowds the tournament has experienced in the past decade.
Congratulations to Jordan Spieth for his impressive win against our
best field yet. We want to thank all the fans, volunteers, sponsors
and players for making this such an outstanding event for the whole
community.”
The Travelers Championship has generated more than $14.5 million
for more than 600 local charities since Travelers became title
sponsor in 2007.
A number of events throughout the week also helped contribute to
the tournament’s charitable efforts, such as the Liberty Bank
Concert Series, with shows from Gin Blossoms and Drake White &
The Big Fire. The sold-out Women’s Day Breakfast on Thursday was
headlined by entrepreneur Tory Burch and chef, author and TV
personality Andrew Zimmern. The Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am featured
Broadway star Christopher Jackson of “Hamilton” fame,
actor/comedian Kevin Nealon, ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman, former
Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield, 10-time NBA All-Star Ray Allen and
actor Dane DeHaan, among others.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and the Hospital for Special Care
(HSC) were Honorary Co-Chairs for this year’s tournament. HSC is
the only facility in Connecticut that is part of the ALS
Association’s national network for Certified Treatment Centers of
Excellence.
The tournament will also be making a donation to the Jay S.
Fishman Fund at the Bruce Edwards Foundation for ALS Research. The
fund was established in memory of Jay Fishman, the former Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of Travelers.
