Digital Leader to Help Guide World’s Leading Government Cyber Education Firm

Troy Schneider, a veteran in government technology and federal contracting media, has joined Billington CyberSecurity as executive vice president and general manager, reporting to the CEO. The longtime editor of FCW and GCN and former president of GovExec 360, Schneider brings over 25 years’ experience in all aspects of Federal IT media.

“Nearly 15 years ago, Billington CyberSecurity was founded to secure our country in cyberspace and that mission is advanced through an extraordinary team as we aim to help our allies and country thwart the most serious cyber threats here and abroad,” explained CEO and Founder Thomas K. Billington. “We are honored to have Troy Schneider join our team. His extensive expertise and leadership skills will help us continue our growth trajectory while maintaining the excellence that our attendees and speakers expect.”

“Throughout my career, the mission has always been to encourage and create space for conversations that matter most in the public sector,” Schneider said. “There are few issues more important than today’s cyber challenges, and Billington CyberSecurity does an amazing job of bringing substance and depth to those discussions. I’m excited to be part of those efforts.”

In this newly created role, Schneider will oversee the team that aims to advance the critically important and increasingly complex needs of Billington CyberSecurity’s clients, speakers and partners. He will ensure the educational programs remain world class and ever more focused on allowing decision-makers to examine key trends and topics while fostering deeper dialogue between government leaders and private industry. Chief among these is the Annual Billington CyberSecurity Summit, being held September 3-6, 2024 in Washington, DC, that explores topics related to this year’s theme: Advancing Cybersecurity in the AI Age. Schneider will also help drive growth for the company's newest cyber event: the 2nd Annual Billington State and Local CyberSecurity Summit on March 11-12, 2025. It will focus on assisting local governments with the increased cyberattacks on the critical infrastructure they support.

Prior to Billington, Schneider served in a variety of leadership roles at 1105 Media and then GovExec, the leading information services and insights company for government leaders and contractors. As president of GovExec 360, he oversaw operations, content, events and client services, and worked closely with scores of the leading companies serving the public sector market. He similarly led Public Sector 360, the government-focused business unit of 1105 Media Inc. that was acquired by GovExec in 2021. For many years, he was the editor-in-chief of both FCW and GCN. Earlier in his career, he served as the New America Foundation’s director of Media & Technology, and prior to that as managing director for Electronic Publishing at the Atlantic Media Company. He is a graduate of Indiana University.
