Washington Gas Joins The NHP Foundation to Launch Operation Pathways in Prince George's County, MD WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington Gas joined The National Housing Partnership Foundation (NHP Foundation) to launch Operation Pathways, a multi-faceted program designed to deliver critical services to residents. The Operation Pathways program in Prince George's County, Maryland, is the first of many local sites that The NHP Foundation will launch in 13 states over the next 12 months. Washington Gas will support local energy assistance activities in association with the program. Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele joined state and county officials as well as community and business leaders on Saturday, March 13, for the launchof Operation Pathways. The event took place at the Master's Child Church Worship Center in Capitol Heights, Md. Lieutenant Governor Steele acknowledged the importance of public-private partnerships and the role they play in supporting model programs such as Operation Pathways. Washington Gas Vice President of Corporate Relations Roberta Willis Sims joined other corporate sponsors for the event. Washington Gas provided an information booth, where company volunteers distributed information about energy assistance programs, payment options for natural gas utility bills, energy efficiency and natural gas safety. Ms. Sims highlighted the company's long tradition of supporting programs that benefit residents in the Washington metropolitan area such as the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF). Washington Gas pays WAFF's administrative costs while the Salvation Army administers the fund. WAFF pays for all types of fuel to heat the homes of people in financial need. Ms. Sims also noted that WashingtonGas will participate in the third annual Energy Assistance Expo at the Prince George's Ballroom, located at 2411 Pinebrook Avenue in Landover, Md., on August 18. The Energy Assistance Expo serves as a one-stop shop where eligible county residents can register for energy assistance funds and learn about ways to manage their winter heating bills. Washington Gas participates and serves as a sponsor of similar energy assistance expositions in the District of Columbia and in Montgomery County, Md. Operation Pathways will offer many services to eligible Prince George's County residents, including early childhood education initiatives, academic achievement for youth, employment services, self-sufficiency for seniors, homeownership counseling, and social enrichment activities such as classes in the performing arts.
