Complaint against ITC Midwest centered on increased cost of service CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, April 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has dismissed a complaint filed by Interstate Power and Light Co. (IPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE: LNT), against ITC Midwest. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20020405/LNTLOGO) On November 18, 2008, IPL filed a formal complaint with FERC seeking relief from the inclusion of certain costs in ITC Midwest's formula rate for FERC jurisdictional transmission service for 2009. IPL contended that, based upon information available to IPL, the operating and maintenance and administrative and general expenses included in ITC Midwest's rates were unjust and unreasonable. In today's decision, FERC ruled that IPL had not presented adequate evidence that ITC's formula rate implementation produced unjust and unreasonable rates with respect to O&M and A&G costs. FERC also rejected IPL's allegations that ITCM had not been adequately forthcoming with information about its projected rates and true-up. "We are disappointed with today's decision from the FERC," said Tom Aller, President-IPL. "In its ruling, FERC did leave the door open for IPL to file a new complaint that would include additional information to strengthen our argument. In order to protect our customers from costs that we view to be unreasonable we will strongly consider this and other options." In its 2009 rate case currently before the Iowa Utilities Board, IPL is seeking an automatic adjustment clause to allow for full recovery of transmission costs. A final decision in that case is expected in the first quarter of 2010.
