PISCATAWAY, N.J., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) has selected Trane to find comprehensive
ways to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions at
DOE sites across the country. The selection supports DOE's
Transformational Energy Action Management (TEAM) initiative to
reduce energy intensity across its nationwide complex by 30
percent. "As the federal government's lead agency on energy
management, DOE will have raised the bar with TEAM initiative,"
said Secretary Samuel W. Bodman in a release issued by the DOE.
"Over the next few years, DOE will leverage every possible public
and private resource to improve our energy performance and reduce
our energy intensity. By fundamentally transforming the way the
department manages energy use in its facilities, not only will we
be able to achieve the President's ambitious goals for increasing
efficiency, but it will also allow for a cleaner, leaner and more
efficient federal government." The TEAM initiative aims to meet or
exceed the aggressive goals for increasing energy efficiency
throughout the federal government already laid out by President
Bush's Executive Order (EO#13423) announced in January. Reducing
energy intensity by 30 percent across the DOE complex will save
approximately $90 million in taxpayer dollars per year, after
projects are paid for. Trane will expand its strong building
systems presence at DOE sites across the country by implementing
energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs) at selected DOE sites
as part of the TEAM initiative. ESPCs help the federal government
create high-performance building environments by funding
construction or much-needed building upgrades through energy
savings. "Building energy use is the single greatest contributor to
global warming emissions while offering a significant opportunity
for our country's government and businesses to save operating
expenses," said John W. Conover IV, president of Trane's commercial
business in the Americas. "Energy Savings Performance Contracts are
an important way for the Department of Energy to deliver on its
environmental promises while doing necessary facility upgrades to
ensure that workers are productive and comfortable." Trane has been
providing HVAC systems and solutions to all government sectors for
more than 50 years - enhancing their indoor and outdoor
environments through integrated solutions for improved indoor air
quality, dehumidification, moisture control, acoustics and energy
efficiency performance. In addition to performance contracts, Trane
also offers government entities comprehensive turnkey solutions and
facility management options via its GSA federal supply schedules
