YELL WINS TOP EUROPEAN QUALITY AWARD FOR SECOND TIME

Yell, the international directories business, has become the first company to
win for a second time the much-coveted European Quality Award for organisational
excellence.

The award, created and managed by the European Foundation for Quality Management
(EFQM), is Europe's most prestigious business honour and acknowledges the
highest performing companies as role models for excellence. Winning a second
time (Yell first won the award in 1999) affirms Yell's reputation as one of the
most successful and well run large businesses in Europe.

As well as the 2004 European Quality Award, Yell received two Special Prizes for
"Leadership" and "People Development and Management" at a special ceremony last
night (Nov 16) at the Estrel Convention Centre in Berlin, Germany, attended by
around 700 leading European business leaders.

The other finalists in the 'Large businesses and business units' category were
the German companies, Knorr-Bremse and Siemens, Solvay Pharma from Spain and TNT
Express.

John Condron, CEO of Yell, said: "This is a wonderful achievement by everyone in
Yell and a further major endorsement of the energy and skills of our people. We
aim always to be at the forefront of business excellence and to grow a culture
which continuously strives to deliver increased value to our customers, our
shareholders and our people. Winning the European Quality Award for the second
time is a fantastic achievement.

Yell first won The European Quality Award in the 'Large businesses and business
units' category in 1999 and was therefore precluded from entering again until
this year.

Entrants for the award, which was launched in 1991, are assessed against the
EFQM Excellence Model, Europe's most widely used management framework.

The model is underpinned by a range of fundamental principles: results
orientation; customer focus; leadership and constancy of purpose; management by
processes and facts; people development and involvement; continuous learning,
innovation and improvement; partnership development; and corporate social
responsibility.

The EFQM annually presents awards and prizes across a number of business
categories, following a detailed assessment including site visits by experts
from leading European businesses.
