CHAIRMAN'S AGM STATEMENT
White Young Green Plc, the engineering and environmental consultant held its
Annual General Meeting today. Gareth Cooper, Chairman, addressed shareholders
as follows:-
"I am pleased to advise our shareholders that we are currently trading in line
with our expectations and enjoy a strong forward order book. The development
of White Young Green is progressing well.
Since the 30th June 2001 four acquisitions have been completed for a total
consideration of #6.3m. The Group has now acquired sixteen businesses since
April 1998 and their contribution, together with the organic growth achieved,
has made White Young Green one of the leading multi disciplinary consultants
in the UK and Ireland.
The recent acquisitions have significantly strengthened our growing
environmental and town planning businesses and we are pleased with the
contributions already being made.
In Ireland although there is a reported downturn in the economy our offices
remain extremely busy and we are confident about future trading. Current
projects include the #120m Smithfield Development in Dublin starting on site
in the Spring of 2002, several projects including a #25m healthcare production
unit in Ardee for Galen Pharmaceuticals and an appointment by the Irish
Department of the Environment and Local Government to participate in a
National Urban Wastewater Study.
Our Group has not been affected by the recent hiatus in the Rail sector. Our
work has historically been focussed on repair and maintenance schemes and the
levels of work secured continues at a high level.
The development of White Young Green in recent times has made it very diverse,
generating repeat business from our clients. We are, however, trading in a
market place at present where the economic indicators are uncertain.
Opportunities continue to be identified and recent notable successes on
projects at Blackburn Hospital, Kingsnorth Power Station, and the Baltic
Business Park Development in Gateshead are typical of the wide range of
projects we are continuing to secure."
