            SODRA SPUDS FIRST WELL IN TRANCHE F,
                     OFFSHORE FALKLANDS

Sodra Petroleum announces that the Borgny Dolphin drilling
rig has spudded the well 14/24-1 at local time of 4.00am on
16 September 1998.  This is the first well in Tranche F, and
the fourth well of the ongoing drilling campaign in the
North Falklands Basin.  The well is located on Prospect
Braela at Latitude 49 degrees, 48 minutes and 46 seconds
South, and longitude 59 degrees, 17 minutes and 50 seconds
West, offshore the Falkland Islands.  The projected total
depth of the well is 3,750 meters, and the drilling should
be completed within 30 days.

Sodra holds a 87.5% interest in Tranche F, with Desire
Petroleum holding 12.5%.
