RANDGOLD RESOURCES TOPS

TOTAL SHAREHOLDER RETURN RATINGS



London, 20 January 2004  -  Randgold Resources has been ranked as the strongest
performer in terms of Total Shareholder Return (TSR) among the current
constituents of the FTSE 350 index between 1 January 1999 and 31 December 2003,
according to the latest Datastream statistics.



The London and Nasdaq listed gold miner improved its TSR rating  -  the
theoretical growth in the value of a shareholding over a specified period,
assuming that dividends are  reinvested in the purchase of additional units of
the equity  -  by 941% during this time.  The TSR ranking places other resource
groups BHP Billiton 7th, Lonmin 17th and Anglo American 28th.
