GLENWOOD, Ill., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Landauer, Inc.
(NYSE: LDR), a recognized leader in personal and environmental
radiation monitoring and the leading domestic provider of
outsourced medical physics services, today announces a three year
commitment to serve as the corporate sponsor for the Upstate
Medical Physics (UMP) Residency program in Diagnostic Imaging
Physics. Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Medical
Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) approved residency program will
be a prerequisite for application to the American Board of
Radiology certification process by the year 2014. At present, only
4 residency programs are CAMPEP approved in Diagnostic Imaging. The
AAPM Professional Council estimates that approximately 50 residency
positions will be needed annually to satisfy the future demand for
Diagnostic Medical Physics experts. "We are committed to excellence
in the education and professional practice of medical physics and
are investing in the future of this profession," stated Bill
Saxelby, President and CEO of Landauer. "Our recent acquisitions of
Global Physics Solutions and our investment in this residency
program are examples of our dedication to supporting growth in
professional medical physics. " The Upstate Medical Physics program
will be the first private practice diagnostic medical physics
residency program in the U.S. and Landauer is the first corporate
sponsor of such a program. UMP has applied to CAMPEP for
accreditation of its residency program. "Landauer has historically
supported the safe utilization of radiation in the healthcare
setting through its leadership in occupational monitoring, and
their support for this residency program demonstrates an expansion
of their market participation by a company uniquely progressive and
committed to the entire professional practice of medical physics,"
stated Bob Pizzutiello, President of Upstate Medical Physics.
