IndigoVision launches video
for handheld devices
New VideoBridge for Wireless technology enables video to be delivered to
handheld consumer electronics products
Edinburgh - 14 June 2001 - IndigoVision Group plc, a leading supplier of video
intellectual property, today announces the launch of a breakthrough technology
which allows high quality video to be delivered over wireless networks to
consumer electronics products, such as PDA's.
IndigoVision technology can now deliver live and pre-recorded video onto
mobile and handheld devices allowing users to view whatever they want,
whenever they want, from wherever they want.
The technology offer has been developed in conjunction with a major worldwide
consumer electronics group, based in Japan, and is marketed by IndigoVision
under its 'VideoBridge' brand name. The solution is a software platform which
allows viewing on any pocket windows device, including the Compaq iPaq range,
Hitachi HPW600-ETM and NEC Mobile Pro 880.
The new technology will allow the user to view on their PDA live TV,
video-on-demand, CCTV cameras, babycams and also to record any of these using
their PDA as a 'pocket-recorder' for viewing later. Furthermore, the
applications for this product extend to a broad range of market specific uses,
such as security, entertainment and business.
For example, users could use a PDA to receive live video feeds to:
- Check a visitor to their home from a remote location and allow or refuse
them entry, as appropriate.
- Watch television programmes whilst on the move.
- Videoconference in to meetings from anywhere in the office.
- See the half-time goals in other Premiership matches from their seat in the
stands.
- Allow security guards to view CCTV cameras as they roam the building, rather
than from a monitoring station.
Oliver Vellacott, CEO of IndigoVision said, "The applications for this
technology are endless and its development opens up myriad opportunities for
the consumer marketplace. This allows us to exploit the position we have
already built in vertical applications and to unleash that content to a much
wider marketplace."
