                       TRENCHING RESULTS FROM SONGPANGUO

                  NEW AREA OF GOLD MINERALISATION DISCOVERED

LONDON - 25 July 2006 - Central China Goldfields plc (AIM: GGG), a mineral
exploration and development company operating in China, is pleased to report
results from a recent trenching programme at its Songpanguo ("SPG") deposit.
The SPG deposit is one of the three deposits which are being explored for gold
by the Company in the Snow Mountain area, Sichuan Province of China. The area
is an emerging gold region in China with Carlin-style gold mineralisation.

Snow Mountain is one of two Company `flagship' projects: the other is the Nimu
copper project in Tibet.

Highlights:

  * New area of gold mineralisation (named `Zone 6') has been confirmed to the
    east of the main mineralised zones

  * The results include: 21m @ 0.77 grammes of gold per tonne with 12m @ 1.05
    grammes of gold per tonne interval, 11m @ 0.60 grammes of gold per tonne
    with 2m @ 2.29 grammes of gold per tonne interval, 2m @ 1.05 grammes of
    gold per tonne, and 9m @ 0.42 grammes of gold per tonne

  * This new zone may add substantial tonnage potential to the resources

  * A tunnel is currently being driven to test the sub-surface extension of
    this zone

Jeff Malaihollo, Managing Director of Central China Goldfields, comments:

"The more work we do in Snow Mountain the better it seems, although we must
stress we will need to commission an independent audit to verify our
encouraging results. The results of the latest trenching confirm a third
cluster of gold mineralisation at Songpanguo. Each of the clusters consists of
a series of mineralised layers between 1 and 11 metres thick. The first cluster
was the original Zones 4 and 5 discovered by our partner. We can now
demonstrate that this Zone is about 500 metres long and it extends down to at
least 200 metres. The second cluster in Zone 3 is about 150 metres to the east
of the first cluster. This is now over 200 metres long and we are testing
further extension of this zone both in terms of length and at depth. The next
step is to test the length, width and depth extensions of the newly confirmed
Zone 6."

GEOLOGICAL DETAILS:

Trench 31 which aims to test the gold tenor of the broad Zone 6 mineralisation
in the SPG area, intersected the following gold mineralisation:

  * 21m @ 0.77 grammes of gold per tonne ("g/t Au ") including 12m @ 1.05 g/t
    Au interval

  * 11m @ 0.60 g/t Au including 2m @ 2.29 g/t Au interval

  * 9m @ 0.42 g/t Au

  * 2m @ 1.05 g/t Au

This is a new zone, about 200 metres to the east of the second cluster (Zone 3)
and may add substantial tonnage potential to the resources in SPG.

The rocks carrying anomalous gold are sandstone and well-bedded, cleaved
intercalated siltstone and mudstone. The higher gold grades, i.e., >1.0 gramme
s per tonne, are associated with the presence of minor crosscutting, quartz
veinlets. There are no gossans or surface stains after sulphide minerals.
However, the brown limonitic colour of the weathered outcrop may reflect an
original fine pyrite content. Small bedding plane ductile shears are present,
in particular near the top contact of the bedded siltstone unit with a massive
marly limestone.

An underground tunnel, PD 420, is currently being driven to test the
sub-surface extension of this zone. So far the tunnel is about 150 metres long
out of a projected length of 280 metres. We expect to finish this tunnel in
about 3 weeks time.
