Capital Radio leads in London and sees growth across the UK
In London, Capital Radio has maintained its leadership position in the most
competitive market in the UK. Latest Rajar figures show that in the quarter to
December 2003, the Group's portfolio of London radio stations has increased
listening hours to 25.4m and share of commercial listening to 21.5%.*
95.8 Capital FM has recaptured its position as London's clear commercial leader
in both reach and share. While other key competitors have seen decreases in both
reach and share, 95.8FM has increased its listeners to 2.3m widening the gap
over Heart FM to over 400, 000 listeners. Share of listening hours has also
grown from 7.0% to 7.8%.
The 95.8 Capital FM breakfast show has added 150,000 listeners to 1.2m and share
has increased from 7.6% to 8.9% and remains the number one commercial radio
choice for Londoners.
The Group, which includes the Capital FM Network, Century FM Network, Capital
Gold Network and Xfm, has also had a strong performance. The number of adult
listeners has grown from 7.7m to 7.9m and total hours are up from 71.7m to
73.4m.*
The Century FM Network has enjoyed another strong quarter with reach and
listening hours at an all time high.
Capital Disney's first audited set of figures show that this unique digital only
station which targets preteens and teens, is starting to build a solid listener
base with almost 200,000 listeners.
Capital Radio plc Chief Executive, David Mansfield, commented:
"I am pleased to see that the changes we put into place at 95.8 Capital FM in
2003 are starting to take effect and that we have recaptured our leadership
position. At breakfast, the creativity and commitment of Chris and the team has
built a solid platform for Johnny Vaughan's arrival. Nonetheless we are a
national radio group and our ambitions go well beyond London. We've increased
our listeners across the Group and I am particularly pleased with the
outstanding year on year growth seen at Century FM Network."

2. The Capital FM Network comprises of 95.8 Capital FM (London), BRMB
(Birmingham), Red Dragon FM (South Wales), Southern FM (Sussex), Power FM
(Hampshire), Beat 106 (Glasgow), FOX FM (Oxford), Invicta FM (Kent).
3. RAJAR (Radio Joint Audience Research Ltd) manages the UK's agreed system of
radio audience measurement. It is jointly owned by the CRCA (Commercial Radio
Companies Association) and by the BBC.
4. Reach refers to the number of weekly listeners in thousands and as a
percentage of the adult population of the station's broadcast area.
5. Share refers to the percentage of total listening time accounted for by a
station within in its own broadcast area within an average week.
